Santa made an appearance at Sheri's Edible Designs!!

It was the middle of the night... twas the night before Christmas and all through the store, not a cake was baking, no batter to pour.....

Santa was very kind to Sheri's Edible Designs this year! Rumor has it he brought tons of shiny new equipment! Not only did he have his elves create a new hood system, but he had them install it as well! Underneath the hood system he left a big shiny toy called an oven. Its the biggest greatest new toy ever! It holds TONS of pans and will surely increase my production time so I have plenty more time to devote to the details of decorating!!!

It didn't end there! He brought new prep tables and a new walk-in cooler too! I thought my old equipment was great, but this...this is the icing on the cake! :)

So, thank you Santa, I know it wasn't easy to carry, deliver and install such heavy equipment and machinery!

We have had a very nice break. There were 4 days that my family had days off together. We spent the time relaxing, playing lots of Sorry and Trouble and doing fun family things.

I have attached a few photos of our holiday break! Happy New Year to everyone!!

Reflections on a blessed year!

I have truly been blessed this year. It's hard to believe 2008 will soon be coming to an end. As the craziness that is wedding season winds down, I have had time to reflect on a genuinely amazing year.

Sheri's Edible Designs had grown full force. While every business owner aspires to do well and grow, I never really grasped the speed at which I would do so. I have had the opportunity to build so many great professional relationships that have become, well, friendships.

I honestly love, respect and care for everyone I work with and every client I work for. I humbly believe it is this dedication which has helped me not only realize my dream, but live it. This is what I have always and still aspire to do, build relationships that transcend the boundaries of the business.

Sheri's Edible Designs started the year as a small business tucked away in a little store on Hilton Head with many loyal clients rooting for me to take off running with all that is success. I am now, and very honored to say, an established cake art studio which has expanded into a very personalized "big" business. Without sounding too ahead of myself here, I am doing well just being me. A little lady with big big dreams and a heart made of cake!

2008 has also been an amazing year personally. I have reached self set goals and have accomplished what I feel is more than could ever have been expected. My little man Nathan turned 5, I reached the big 2-4 (24) and have celebrated another wonderful year with my husband and best friend Gary, the best 6 years of my life!
Not to forget the new friends that have been made, the challenges that were met and the awe inspiring opportunities that have been had.

With big hopes and sincere wishes, 2009 will be even better. I thank each and every individual who takes the time to say thank you or reaches out to let me know they appreciate my art. It keeps me wanting to be better, wanting to grow and gain more knowledge of my craft.

A combination of the best family, greatest friends, happiest most dedicated clients and the passion to keep living the dream is absolutely going to be my recipe for success.

Thank you.

It's Been Awhile...

Well, not THAT long, but long enough since I have blogged. It's hard to believe it's been a month since we've moved! There has been LOTS to keep us busy, throw in a holiday and forget it!

This past weekend I was so very excited to have my sister Beth and brother Keith in town from Myrtle Beach for a visit. My brother Keith is a talented carpenter and so graciously created BEAUTIFUL display cases for my cakes. They were big, heavy, massive, complicated (lots of angles), intricate and detailed in every way. I appreciate his gift of these beautiful cases...they really make my storefront complete.

My sister Beth and I went shopping for some "New Store Decor" and found some really neat things (including a pair of pears). It was a great weekend.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday!

The Design Process At Sheri's Edible Designs

Jill has been a great client! She and her fiance Les were married Sunday November 16, 2008 at the Inn at Palmetto Bluff. We met several months ago to begin the design process for her wedding cake. She brought me several ideas and I took certain design elements I know she loved and combined them to create her final wedding cake design. We started with a series of sketches in different shape and size combinations until she decided what shape she wanted her cake to have. From the shape meeting, we discussed design elements, colors, textures, patterns and height. Her color ideas for her cake were creams, ivories and chocolate brown. Her wedding colors were various shades of browns, coppers and ivory and cream. Below I have attached photos of the inspiration for her design as well as the sketch I created for her, and now her final product on her wedding day! Enjoy.

Congratulations Jill and Les! Your wedding was beautiful!!! I very much enjoyed creating your wedding cake :)

Here's a lovely note I received today from Jill-

Hi Sheri-
I wanted to drop you a line to thank you for the gorgeous cake you
created for me for my wedding. It was not only beautiful but, also very
tasty. I had several emails from guests following the wedding raving
that it was the best cake they ever had. I really enjoyed working with
you and I appreciate all the time you spent with me to get my cake
design underway. It was truly amazing!

Appreciation For my Better Half!

Clients always ask me "You do this by yourself?". I do. From the original phone calls and emails to the consultation, the physical aspect of baking, filling, icing, decorating and delivery of the cake (with the exception of the very heavy ones) I do it all. But there is so much more to the day to day than everything listed above. This is where my husband and better half Gary comes in. Gary is an amazing man. He owns and operates his landscaping company, is a Supervisor at UPS and cares for our son Nathan, not to mention the bulk of the household chores. With all that aside, he is always there for me to handle certain things I will admit I just couldn't do alone. Every now and then, a client will need a cake that defies gravity. Gary helps to design the stabilizing structure for their cake. He is the handyman and a good one at that. He has also been extremely helpful doing the majority of the finishing touches of the new store during my crazy April-October season. I was virtually absent through it all.

Every job...from painting, to the floor trim, tile floors, sanding and patching walls and cleaning was done by Gary. He has now decided that he will never paint or tile anything again! Since he is not a paid laboror, I figured I would send this ode to him. I know it is hardly payment for his hard work, but maybe he'll see that I appreciate him more than he knows!

Here are some pictures from his summer of fun!!! :)

5 Years Ago Today

Today is Nathan's 5th Birthday! It is hard to believe he is 5 years old! It seems like just yesterday Gary and I were preparing ourselves for the big change about to grace us. The anticipation of meeting our little baby overtook us and we were constantly counting the days.

It seems like just yesterday we were playing Rock Paper Scissors regarding diaper duty and midnight shifts in the rocking chair!

Nathan has blessed us with 5 years of joy and excitement! Watching him grow and learn new things has been so life changing in such a wonderful way! Watching Nathan develop his own little personality and the quirky little things he says and does has put many smiles on our faces.

5 years ago today I can still remember as if I were there, the nerves of giving birth, the happiness of delivering and healthy baby boy and the overwhelming feeling of love when we held him for the first time.

Happy Birthday Nathan, We Love You!!

Holiday Season

Its almost Holiday season!!!! I love this time of year! The smell of fall in the air and the colors that accompany the season make me cheerful. Not to mention it is almost boot and sweater season...my fave! I wish everyone Happy Holidays and Happy Boot and Sweater season! :)

Some wedding cake photos from the weekend.

Halloween and Weekend Weddings

Halloween was so much fun this year. Being that it was on a Friday, the excited Trick -or- Treaters did not have to worry about getting up for school the next day. There were lots of ghosts, goblins and ghouls parading around our neighborhood searching for yummy candy and treats.

Nathan went as a pirate and looked so cool! He loved being a "scary kind of pirate" and was even a little trooper, wearing his makeup mustache and beard even though he said it was itchy and tickled. He had a great time and is already plotting what he will wear next year!

I also had the pleasure of creating wedding cakes for some really lovely couples this weekend.

Stephanie and Eric- Private Home on Fripp Island, SC

Stephanie and Eric had a beachy chic wedding. The decor on the large wrap around two story deck was amazing in earth tones and monochromatic tones of sand color. It was really lovely. They wanted a cake that was traditional, but also beachy. They chose a 3 tier butter cream cake with sugar roses and edible sea shells. Congratulations Stephanie and Eric!

Rachael and Erick- Private Rental Home- Hilton Head Island, SC

Rachael and Erick had a wonderful ocean front wedding with beautiful twilight ambiance. Rachael loved the whimsical design cakes I had previously created and wanted something very ornate and beautiful. This cake was a 3 tiered whimsical design with vine detail, sugar butter flies, flowers and lady bugs. Rachael and Erick, I wish you the very best future together and many great memories of your beautiful wedding day!

Michelle and Dan- Sea Pines Resort Plantation Club- Hilton Head Island, SC

Michelle and Dan are so sweet! Their wedding was beautifully decorated with whites, shades of ivory, chocolate brown and deep garnet red.
They wanted a cake to match the color scheme of their wedding reception. Their cake was a 3 tier square with ivory butter cream, chocolate brown scroll work and deep wine colored sugar calla lilies.
I very much enjoyed working with Michelle and Dan and hope their wedding day was everything they dreamed of and more!
