A Whirlwind Wedding Weekend!

Wow what a week! This time of year is really busy for weddings and this weekend was no exception. I had 11 cakes go out this week, most of which were adorned with custom handmade sugar pieces such as bows and flowers.

While I do typically limit the number of commitments I accept for a given date, for every cake I took on for this weekend, I was forced to turn 2 away. I don't blame the brides for choosing this weekend to get married. After all, it is in the 80's with mild humidity and beautiful breezes....not to mention I was born on this weekend 25 years ago...has to count for something right?

So with 11 cakes, 100 sugar flowers, my birthday and a Death by Chocolate fundraiser (which I will blog separately), it's no wonder I need to put my feet up....oh and I guess it doesn't help I am nearly 7 months pregnant....

Not complaining at all....just relishing in the fact that all that was going on and not one ounce of quality was compromised. It just meant I worked a little harder this week, that's all. I respect my clients and the fact they have put trust in me to be part of their most special day.

Here are some pictures of the beautiful wedding cakes!

Weekend Weddings- Many congratulations to all the newlywed couples!

Could not have asked for a better weather weekend! Friday saw heavy rains early in the day, only to have the skies clear and cast a beautiful glow on the freshly watered scenery. Saturday was incredible...mild temps and blue skies with white puffy clouds...who could ask for more?

Definitely not the couples who were married this weekend! Everything was perfect! The cakes were gorgeous, the wedding decor at every reception was just breathtaking and these couples were just a joy to work with!

Here are some pictures of their delicious wedding cakes:

I did not go on hiatus from blogging...I've been busy having fun!

So...yeah....well.....it's been ugh well....say a month since I've last blogged. I promise though...I have not been kicking back eating bon bons in the sunset for the last month!

BUT I have indeed been having fun. If you would like to call your son, your precious little sweet innocent cutie pie son starting kindergarten fun...well then yes, I've been having fun. Add to that a trip to Chicago, a ton of client homework and well there are of course CAKES (tons of them might I add) and one could say I'm a little rusty with the updates. Truth is, with all the craziness that August had in store, I still managed to have a little fun. Thank goodness!!

But, alas, as most of you (the blog followers anyway) have been patiently waiting for...it's time for an update.

Okay so here goes....

CAKES! Tons of them- coming from every direction- they're everywhere and IT'S NOT SLOWING DOWN. I think there's a break coming soon (I think). Not complaining...it means longevity and job security I know I know...so here are the CAKES!

Summer is for the beach bound right??

The last couple weeks at Sheri's Edible Designs have been busy creating shells and sand for some really great beach theme wedding cakes. We create a lot of these here in Hilton Head.

My clients appreciate the thought I put into their cakes to design beach theme wedding cakes that are not your ordinary predictable beach wedding cake. When a client comes into the studio in hopes of ordering a "beachy" cake, I like to ask, " Are you looking for Elegant Beach, Funky Beach, Simplistic Beach, Rustic Beach, Minimalistic Beach.......?" the list goes on.

Hilton Head Island hosts primarily destination weddings. It is safe to say 99% of my clients are destination. They come here for the beach. I have often joked with clients that if I have to put another sea shell on a wedding cake I'm going to scream! This is obviously a joke as I know the rest of my career will involve those lovely little white chocolate or sugar paste creations.

What I am doing however, is going out of the box a little and design beach theme wedding cakes in such a way that you don't end up with the same cake Susie had, or Catherine, or Jessica.....these cakes are uniquely the clients own.

So, without further hesitation....I present you with the beach cakes from last week (yes...all of them in the same week, I told you BEACH bound summer!) and a few others who didn't fancy the sea shell idea and went for flowers or whimsy instead.

Enjoy!

This week I also had the pleasure of creating some cakes that were anything but beach-

This cake was a joined birthday cake for Melanie's husband Jamie and best friend Jennifer. In addition to the black, white and red designs, there were also each person's 3 favorite things to personalize it a bit more. Jamie's favorite things are Clemson Football, Beer and his Boxer dogs. Jen's favorite things are Diamonds (which were edible on the cake), Moet white star champagne and her Ragdoll cats. Incorporating all these things was fun and I was surprised how easy it was to pull off!

Thanks for reading until the end! This was a long one!
