Whew, the past two weeks have been a whirlwind of dazzling, exciting and challenging cake designs!
I've created many grooms cakes, birthday cakes, celebration cakes and wedding cakes over the past 10 days.
Some of the cakes have intricate filigree piping or quilting, some have edible sugar diamonds and lots of frills- the grooms cakes have had funny stories behind them and the birthday cakes have had meaningful ones. Sometimes this career path could not be any better (some days are definitely better than others...)
One very special project I have had the pleasure of assisting with has been the Benson's 50th Anniversary cake. Mr. and Mrs. Benson were married 50 years ago. They had a very beautiful and modern wedding cake (For 1960). Their daughter, Betty, commissioned me to replicate the cake, just as the original, as well as re-create the topper for their surprise party. I have to say, I had to dig way way back into the memory banks and pull out skills I forgot I had. It has honestly been forever since I've had to pipe ruffles, garland, butter cream roses and shell borders. I felt as though I were back at my very humble beginnings. It was a real treat to get to do it though and I'm sure they will be very happy with the result!
